The cost to participate in GrowRuck Alamo is $150 for San Antonio PAX and $125 for the “Clown Car Special” (or those coming from out of town). The cost is reduced for out of town PAX to assist with additional costs they will incur in travel, food, and lodging expenses.

Q: What about COVID-19?
We know that COVID-19 is an issue and concern for many and we are not ignoring it. All of our events will be held in outdoor, open-air venues with plenty of room for social distancing. In addition, we will be taking additional precautions during the GrowRuck Training Event, such as masking up for the entire event and prohibiting the use of shared coupons. Organizers are monitoring the situation with the pandemic and will comply with all health and safety regulations.
Q: What do I need to know about the gear for the ruck event?
The most frequent question asked when an F3 group begins to look into doing GrowRuck is “do I need to buy a $300 backpack”. The short answer is no. Here’s what we recommend. Go to the F3 Gear website and look up the TLO TacPack12 – 12 Hour Tactical Backpack. You will find a reasonable priced rucksack.
Another option is to email [email protected] with the subject line of Lend a Ruck, and someone from the F3Nation will answer the call and ship you his ruck to use for a small fee. Each region that would like to rent a Lend-a-Ruck needs to identify a Q to communicate with the GrowRuck team. There is a small fee to help with shipping and all you have to do is Ruck and then send it back clean and dry.
Q: What else will I need besides a ruck?
See the following packing list:
Required Gear:
• Backpack (aka Rucksack)
• Weight: 30lb weight if you weigh 150 pounds or more; or 20lb weight if you weigh less than 150 pounds. This weight goes in your rucksack.
• Water (6L): Bring at least 6L of water. A hydration bladder is recommended. (Cadre is requiring participants to carry 6L)
• Nalgene Bottle (1L) or equivalent (electrolytes recommended).
• Cab Fare: Bring $20 in cash. Put it in a plastic bag inside of a dry bag.
• Photo ID: Drivers license or other ID with your picture and name on it.
• Headlamp and extra batteries.
• PT Belt/Reflective Band attached securely to your ruck.
• Facemasks (2 minimum): something that will not repeatedly fall off – Masks will be worn for the duration of the event.
• Work Gloves (1 Pair): Not medical gloves. Pro tip: Bring a second pair for use in the event your original pair fills up with sand/gravel or a teammate forgets to bring some.
• Hand Sanitizer/Wipes – 1 bottle Purell, 1 package of baby wipes (or equivalent)
• Carabiner
Highly Recommended Individual Gear:
• Dry Bag: A dry bag will keep all of your gear dry.
• Pelican Case: Pelican cases are great for making sure your essentials (phone/keys/ID/cash) stay completely dry and safe – just ask Tuba or Dugger!
• Food: The ruck event will last 12+ hours, so bring some snacks for energy.
• First Aid & Foot Care Kit: Something small… think for little cuts and/or blisters.
Recommended Clothing/Apparel:
• Shirt: lightweight, quick-drying technical fabric – bring two
• Pants: we recommend pants instead of shorts, because this isn’t a walk in the park.
• Socks: wool or synthetic quick drying material – bring two pairs.
• Shoes: quality hiking shoes or otherwise just some beater running shoes.
• Underwear: Chaffing sucks so find something that works well for you.
• Windbreaker: nice to have in case the weather turns windy, wet and/or cold.
